We left Salamanca on Monday morning and stopped in Buffalo where we explored some more war ships at The Naval & Military Park before heading to Niagara Falls. We decided to join Over the Fall Tours ($75 pp) for sightseeing of all the impressive sights of Niagara Falls. The tour started at the Giant Whirlpool and Whirlpool State Park then proceeded to the American Observation Tower with stunning views of the American Falls before boarding the Maid of the Mist Boat for a wet ride to see the falls up close and personal. They give you a raincoat to wear as you will get soaking wet but what a sight as you view the American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls as well as the Horseshow Falls (in Canada). It was an exhilarating experience that you cannot describe in words. They give you a raincoat and sandals at the adventurous Cave of the Winds where you walk up stairs next to the Bridal Veil Falls while you feel the force of the wind and water as it comes gushing down. This was a sure highlight and my face and hair got soaked but it was just amazing. The tour concluded with a visit to Goat Island, Three Sister Islands and a 4D movie back at the starting point. The movie was a letdown but did have a few interesting facts. Overall the tour was amazing and worth every cent.
In the evening we decided to try doughnuts from Dunkin Donuts. We shared three different ones. I do not understand the American’s love of this as I did not enjoy it but I am glad I gave it a try. After sunset we went to see the falls from the American Observation Tower. They shine different colour lights on the falls which may seem a bit tacky but the falls are spectacular none the less and it was a lovely evening out and a highlight of the trip so far.
